Participatory Law Fund

ABOUT

The Participatory Law Fund (PLF) supports the development of participatory law scholarship by recognizing and investing in the contributions of its experiential co-authors. The Fund emerged from the belief that advancing this scholarship requires not only recognizing lived experience as a form of expertise, but also providing meaningful support to those whose contributions have historically been undervalued in legal academia.

What PLF Provides

The PLF provides financial awards to PLS co-authors who have no formal legal training and are not academics, in recognition of their expertise and contributions to legal scholarship. Awards are available in the following amounts:

  • $4,000 for full-length articles exceeding 20,000 words.

  • $2,000 for essays between 10,000 and 20,000 words.

Recipients may use award funds to support research activities, professional conference attendance, travel, and other expenses related to the production and promotion of their scholarly work.

Through these awards, the PLF seeks to recognize experiential expertise not merely as a contribution to legal scholarship, but as an essential part of its intellectual and scholarly development.
